So today is the 1st of October… and a marker for us all in the Northern Hemisphere that we are edging closer to the resting energy of Winter.

And while Autumn is recognised for bringing inspirational ideas; the pull to complete projects that were started in Spring and Summer will get stronger as this is a time to bring home your inner harvest.

October comes from the word ‘Octo’ meaning eight as this was originally the eighth month of the Roman calendar.

However in the languages of the British Isles, the naming of this month is more connected to the work that our ancestors deemed as most important right now.

Deireadh Fomhair (Irish Gaelic) and Jerry-fouyir (Manx) both contains words meaning ‘end’ and ‘harvest’ as this was very much the final time to gather in the crops.

Our ancestors, who lived very closely to the Wheel of Life would have also been watching the weather as it was commonly regarded that “If October brings heavy frosts and winds, then will January and February be mild.”

Let’s wait and see.
